Brett was born and raised in Belleville, IL, just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO. He developed his skills as a songwriter and performer in a number of bands around St. Louis and decided to move to Nashville in 2009 to pursue songwriting as a career. “Nashville is the place to be if you’re serious about writing country songs. So my wife and I got married and moved to Nashville the next day,” recalls Brett.
Brett hit the ground running in Nashville but was quickly sidetracked a few months later when he was diagnosed with cancer. “When you’re told you have the ‘C’ word, everything changes. You get a very clear picture of what you want from life. For me, this dream became everything I eat, sleep, and breathe,” Brett says. (He has been cancer free since 2010)
While Brett spent years focused on just being a songwriter, he started making a name for himself as a singer by performing his songs around Nashville. As a result, he has embarked on a new journey as an artist. “I’ve been in Nashville for 8 years and I haven’t been able to get a deal or any major cuts as a songwriter. I started to think that maybe I should start singing my own tunes,” says Brett. Armed with an arsenal of songs that that blend catchy melodies with clever hooks and lyrical substance, that journey is off to a great start.
